Obligations

Melbourne Facilities Management (MFM) recognises its obligation to take all reasonable precautions to provide and maintain so far as is practicable, an environment that is safe and without risks to health for employees, visitors, tenants and contractors. This commitment extends to ensuring that the organisation’s operations do not place the local community at risk of injury, illness or property damage.

Objectives

MFM will:

  • Provide safe plant and systems of work
  • Provide written procedures and instructions to ensure safe systems of work
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and current industry standards
  • Provide information, instruction, training and supervision to employees, contractors and tenants to ensure their safety
  • Provide support and assistance to employees
  • Ensure contractors practice safe system of what compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards
Application of the Policy

This policy applies to all staff, visitors, tenants, contractors, etc in the buildings under the management of MFM.

Responsibilities

Management is responsible for:

  • The provision and maintenance of the workplace in a safe condition
  • Involvement in the development, promotion and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures
  • Training employees in. the safe performance of their assigned tasks
  • The provision of resources to meet the health and safety commitment

Employees are to:

  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Report all known. or observed hazards to their immediate supervisor or manager

Contractors must comply with:

  • Their organisation OHS requirements and regulations
  • MFM OHS Policy
  • “Safety, Health and Environmental” instructions given by authorised MFM staff
  • The current Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004

Tenants, the Body Corporate and Visitors:

  • Are required to comply with all “Safety, Health and Environmental” instructions given by authorised MFM staff and MFM contractors
Consultation

The organisation is committed to consultation and cooperation between management, tenants, the body corporate and employees. The organisation will consult with elected employee health and safety representatives and other employees in any workplace change, over which MFM has control that will affect the health and safety of any of its employees.
